TRW launched the first rollover curtain airbag system in 2002 to help protect passengers in a rollover event.   The system employs TRW’s unique cold gas inflator that can help keep the bag inflated for up to six seconds.   This is particularly important in a rollover crash scenario that can last much longer than a frontal or side impact collision and it helps aid in occupant ejection protection. The side curtain bags are also specially coated to help keep the bag inflated, and can extend forward and rearward down the sides of the vehicle to protect up to three rows of passengers in minivans and SUVs.
