TRW’s Knee Airbag technology extends the typical range of airbag coverage to assist in helping to protect the lower extremities in a frontal crash.   These airbags work in concert with the normal frontal airbag and seatbelt systems to help balance occupant loading across the body. The bags are shaped to help provide protection for the knees and surrounding parts of the legs.
